Real-time DayTrading Marginable Equities Buying Power (Balances Row)

The Intraday Buying Power (Day Trading Rule 431). This value updates in real-time on a tick-by-tick basis every time the market value of your account's equity positions changes. This value is calculated by taking the beginning of day Intraday Buying Power plus proceeds from any intraday positions closed today (excluding any realized gains) divided by the margin requirement minus any currently used buying power (including potential cost of open orders and cost of positions entered today) minus the net unrealized loss currently being carried by open positions (if the net unrealized p/l is a gain, the unrealized gain is excluded from the calculation).

Important The current trading day's Real-time Intraday Buying Power will never exceed the current trading day's Beginning Day Intraday Buying Power.

  • Real-time Intraday Marginable Equities Buying Power = Beginning Day Intraday Marginable Equities Buying Power + [(Proceeds from exited positions) - (any individual realized gains via liquidation)] / [(Margin %) - (Used buying power)] / ½(each individual realized loss) / (Margin %) - (Net Unrealized Loss)½

Used buying power includes the cost of positions opened and the potential cost of current open orders. The straight brackets (½½) indicate that you should use the absolute value of the number, disregarding whether it is negative or positive.
