Portfolio Stops

Portfolio stops, also known as equity filters, are used to subject a portfolio to requirements that exist in real trading situations. If a portfolio gain or loss exceeds a set value (parameter PrftTarget), all positions will be closed and the trades will not be taken until the next period (parameter Period).

  1. Click the Manage Portfolios icon in the Shortcut Bar.

  2. Click the Portfolio Settings button. The Portfolio Settings dialog is displayed.

  3. Select the Portfolio Stops tab.

  4. Select the desired stop strategy from the Available Stop Strategies drop-down list. The following are possible stops that can be added to a portfolio:

    • Portfolio Percent Trailing Stop - Uses the the parameter PctPrftTarget, expressed as a percent, to trigger the trailing stop, Uses PctTrailingStop to set the percent loss that triggers an exit. The period for which Percent Trailing Stop is calculated is determined by the parameter Period. If Period = 1, 2, or 3 then the period of calculation is a month, week, or day correspondingly.

    • Portfolio Profit Target - is set with the parameter PrftTarget expressed as a percent if the parameter PrftAsPercent = True or expressed in the portfolio currency if the parameter PrftAsPercent = False. The period for which Portfolio Profit Target is calculated is determined by the parameter Period. If Period = 1, 2 ,or 3 then the period of calculation is a month, week, or day correspondingly.

    • Portfolio Stop Loss - is set with the parameter LossTarget expressed as a percent if the parameter LossAsPercent = True or expressed in the portfolio currency if the parameter LossAsPercent = False. The period for which Portfolio Stop Loss is calculated is determined by the parameter Period. If Period = 1, 2, or 3 then the period of calculation is a month, week, or day correspondingly.

  5. Make the necessary changes to the values for the selected stop strategy in the Set/Change Stop Strategy Inputs pane.

  6. Click the Set Stop button. The selected stop strategies are displayed in the Stop Strategies To Apply to Portfolio pane.

  7. Click OK when finished.  

If a portfolio has more than one stop, all of the stops will be shown via a drop-down box in yellow at the bottom of the upper part of the screen above constraints.
