Command Line Errors
Command line errors are always displayed in the status bar. You can also choose to display command line errors in a window. See Displaying Command Line Errors for more information.
The Command Line displays errors for incorrect command syntax, commands that are not valid for the active window, or commands that are lacking required parameter or have incorrect parameters. Any errors resulting from entering an invalid symbol are displayed in the active window, not the status bar or Command Line Errors window.
To resolve a Command Line error, check the Command Line Reference to make sure the syntax is correct and that there are no missing or incorrect parameters. Then, clear the incorrect command from the Command Line Entry box and enter the correct commands.
Here are possible Command Line errors:
- Command not recognized - There is an error in the command's syntax.
- Command is not valid for the active window - The command is not valid for the active window.
- Command parameter is not specified - The command is valid for the active window but requires a parameter.
- Command parameter is not recognized - The command is valid for the active window but the parameter was incorrectly specified.
- Multiple symbols cannot be simultaneously entered into this window - Multiple symbols were specified for a window that does not support multiple symbols.
- Cannot add symbol(s) into selected filter type - A symbol was specified for a non-symbol filter. This error message applies to the News window only.
