About Sharing of Drawing Objects

Drawing object sharing allows drawing objects created in a chart to be automatically replicated in other charts of the same symbol.

Access the Share Drawing Objects checkbox by activating a chart and following the chart's Settings > Window menu sequence. Select the General tab.

How It Works

  • Drawing objects can be shared by charts that have the same symbol as Data1. Only charts that have the same symbol as Data1 can share drawing objects.
  • Only drawing objects that are based on Data1 can be shared. Drawing objects that are based on other data streams (Data2, Data3, Data4, etc), or based on indicators, cannot be shared.
  • Only manually created drawing objects are shared. Drawing objects created by EasyLanguage code are not shared.
  • If a chart contains a drawing object based on a study (e.g., an indicator), and the study is based on Data1, then the option to enable sharing of drawing objects will be disabled (grayed-out). Sharing of drawing objects cannot be enabled on charts that contain a drawing object that is based on a study if the study is based on Data1.
  • The Text drawing object is not shared.
  • When sharing of drawing objects is enabled, the option to base a new drawing object on an indicator that is plotted in the same subgraph as Data1 is disabled.
  • New drawing objects added to a chart that is sharing drawing objects will immediately appear in all charts that are sharing and that have the same symbol as Data1.
  • Changes to properties of drawing objects (position, color, line weight, etc.) are shared immediately. For example, dragging a drawing object in one chart will cause the drawing object to dynamically update its position in other charts, if needed.

Sharing Across Charts of Different Bar Intervals and Historical Ranges

When sharing across charts that have differing bar intervals (5-min, 13-min, 45-second, 10,000 share, etc.), ensure that all charts contain sufficient historical data to support all drawing objects. For example, when drawing a trendline across 24 bars on a monthly chart, be sure that other charts have more than 24 months of data loaded so that the charts can share the trendline drawn in the monthly chart.
