Creating a Trade List in the Basket Order Window

In TradeStation, you have the ability to create a Trade List using the Basket Order window.

Activate an existing Basket Order window, or click the Basket Order icon from the Apps tab to create a new one. The Basket Order window is displayed.

  1. Enter the symbol in the Symbol column and press Enter. For example, if you want to create a trade list starting with Microsoft, enter "MSFT" in the Symbol column.

The Quantity, Order Type, etc., columns will automatically enter the order entry preferences that are set in the Trade Bar. For example, to change the default settings for an Equity order, see Order Entry Preferences - Equities -Trading.

  1. Optional. Modify the Quantity and Order Type (Type) for each symbol entered. For a limit order type, enter a limit price or select an Auto Price.
  2. Continue to add the desired symbols you want in your trade list.
  3. Click the Save Trade List button. The Save As dialog is displayed.
  4. Navigate to the location where you want to save the Trade List. TradeStation provides a Trade List folder on your local drive to save Trade Lists created.

The Trade List is saved as a .txt file. You can load the new Trade List in the Basket Order or you can edit the Trade List in a text editor (see Editing a Trade List Text File).

Editing a Trade List in the Basket Order Window

You can edit a Trade List that you have loaded into a Basket Order window as easily as editing a spreadsheet. When you edit a Trade List directly in the Basket Order window, the changes only apply to that instance of the Trade List and they will not be saved to the original Trade List. If you want to modify the original Trade List, you will need to edit the Trade List's text file.

  1. Open an existing Trade List in an active Basket Order window.
  2. Select the cell to edit. For example, if you want to edit the symbol for the first order entry, click the first cell containing a symbol under the Symbol column. To add a new symbol, click in the next empty cell under the Symbol column.
  1. Enter the new order information inside the selected cell (i.e., Dell).
  2. Press the ENTER key.
  3. Continue to edit the rest of the information that you need to modify using steps 2-4.
