Format Analysis Technique - General

When using analysis techniques and indicators in a Chart or other analysis window, you can format its properties so that these settings are used when the analysis technique/indicator performs a calculation. You can modify the name, short name, notes, maximum number of bars the study will reference, and more.

• Access using the menu bar Format > Analysis Techniques menu sequence while in an Chart Analysis, RadarScreen, or other analysis window. Select the desired analysis technique from the list, click the Format button, and then select the General tab. Or, you may right-click an analysis technique in a chart or from a grid column, then select the General tab.

Name  

 Contains the analysis technique/indicator name.

• Enter the desired name in the Name box (if applicable).

Short Name  

Contains the abbreviated name for the analysis technique/indicator.

• Enter the desired short name in the Short Name box (if applicable).

Notes  

Contains relevant notes pertaining to the analysis technique/indicator.

Base Study on  

Contains the symbols that are available in the active Chart Analysis window.

• Select the desired symbol from the drop-down list to base the study on.

Maximum number of bars study will reference  

Displays the number of bars available to the analysis technique/indicator. For more information, see About the Maximum Bars Back Setting and Maximum Number of Bars Study Will Reference Setting.

• Auto-detect - Select this setting for TradeStation to detects the number of bars the analysis technique/indicator needs to calculate. By default, Auto-detect is selected.
• User defined - Select this setting to manually set the number of bars to use for the analysis technique/indicator.

• Update value intra-bar (tick-by-tick) - Check this setting to re-calculate the analysis technique/indicator on a tick-by-tick basis. If this check box is cleared, the analysis technique/indicator waits until the close of each bar (as determined by the data interval) before re-calculating. Not available for ActivityBars.  
• Load additional data for accumulative calculations - Check this setting to enter the number of additional bars of data to load. The option is only displayed when using an indicator using accumulative calculations. Click Details for more information on Loading Additional Data for Accumulative Calculations.

Currency based on  

For symbols where the US Dollar is not the base symbol. Determines the currency conversion value that the ProfitCF and LossCF reserved words return in the analysis techniques's EasyLanguage calculations when trading symbols that are based on a different currency than your trading account.

For example, if you're using a forex symbol such as USDJPY that trades in Yen and you have Currency Based on set to Account (where your account is based in U.S. dollars), the ProfitCF and LossCF words will return the currency conversion factor that can be used to convert Yen values to dollars. On the other hand, if you're  using the USDJPY forex symbol and have Currency Based on set to Symbol, the reserved words ProfitCF and LossCF will return 1 since no conversion is needed for Yen to Yen.

• Select the currency type from the drop-down list in which you want to base the calculated value for the analysis technique/indicator.

Default - Check this setting to use any changes that you made as your default setting.

Edit EasyLanguage - Launches the TradeStation Development Environment. If disabled, the option to edit an analysis technique in the TradeStation Development Environment is not available.

 Click OK to apply changes or Cancel to exit without changes.
