Symbol Lookup - Stocks
The Stocks tab on the Symbol Lookup dialog searches and finds the desired stock symbol based on the criteria you select.
Access using the menu bar Insert > Symbol menu sequence and click Lookup. You can also use the Main toolbar and click the Symbol Lookup icon.
The following methods are available to search for stock symbols:
- Search type
- Begins with - When selected, searches for the Description or Symbol that begins with the entered characters or numbers.
- Contains - When selected, searches for the Description or Symbol that contains the entered characters or numbers.
- Description - Searches for symbol descriptions that contain the characters(s) that you entered as search criteria. In addition to using the description search, the results will find all symbols related to the stock symbol you are searching. For example, typing "Toyota" will return multiple symbols. This method is helpful if you know the company name but unsure of the stock symbol.
- Symbol - Searches by the actual symbol. This setting searches for symbols that begin with the number(s) that you enter as search criteria. For example, if you enter 72 with Begins With selected, the results will contain all symbols beginning with 72, (i.e. 7283, 7259, 7238), but not 3723. However, if Contains is selected, all symbols containing '72' will be displayed.
The following filter settings are used to refine the search criteria:
- Country - Searches for stock symbols associated by country (Japan).
- Show preferred exchanges only - Check this setting to display the Preferred Japanese Equities. This allows you to see a condensed list of results making it quicker to find the base root symbol.
- Include symbols no longer trading - Check this setting to display stock symbols for the selected symbol or description that is no longer trading in the search list. Symbols contain only historical data. This may include mergers that trade under a new symbol, and will be displayed with one or more exclamation marks ( ! ) after the root symbol.
Lookup - Displays the results you are looking for. The results will be based on what you entered in the Description, Root, Currency, and Country settings. Results will be displayed in the stocks symbol box.
