Placing an Equities Order
To generate an order from the Order Bar, you will typically fill in the boxes on the top row of the order bar, from left to right. Once you've entered and reviewed the order parameters, you can select a button from the second row to specify a basic order action (Buy, Sell, etc.) or choose another type of order.
Steps for Placing an Equities Order
- Enter the symbol for which you want to place an order in the Symbol box. Click the Symbol Lookup button to find a symbol by description or name.
- Select how you want to fund the order from the Fund Source drop-down list (Cash, Standard Margin, Negotiated Margin).
- Select the method of Taxation to use for the order (Tokutei, Non-Tokutei).
- Enter the number of shares or currency value for your order in the Quantity box or select a number using the or arrows. Click # or ¥ to specify whether the Quantity field refers to the number of shares or a currency value in yen.
- Select the type of order you want to place from the Order Type drop-down list (Market, Limit, Stop Market, Stop Limit).
- For Limit or Stop Limit orders, enter a limit price value in the Limit Price box or select a number using the or arrows. You can also click the Auto button to the right of the Limit Price box to use the Auto Price feature.
- For Stop Market or Stop Limit orders, enter a stop price value in the Stop Price box or select a number using the or arrows. You can also click the Auto button to the right of the Stop Price box to use the Auto Price feature.
- Select the length of time for the order to be valid from the Duration drop-down list.
- Optionally, click the Advanced button to select any advanced order features you may want to use for this order.
- Click an order action button for this order (Buy, Sell, Sell Short, or Buy to Cover) that matches your funding source.
- Click Yes to send the order or No to cancel the order in the Confirm dialog.
You can disable the Confirm dialog if you do not wish to confirm your order before placing it. For more information, see Enabling and Disabling Order Confirmations.
