Using Alerts with Drawing Objects

The cycle drawing objects (Standard Cycle and Fibonacci Cycle) have alerts that will notify you a certain number of bars before another cycle is about to begin. These alerts are also sent to the TradeStation Message Center. For detailed instructions for each cycle drawing object, see Drawing Objects Library.

All other drawing object alerts are triggered using one of three options: Breakout intrabar, Breakout on close, or Breakout intra/inter-bar. Each of these options alert you to a breakout either on the upside or the downside of your price data; however, they differ in what condition qualifies as a breakout.

  1. Right-click on the selected drawing object for which you want to enable the alert.
  2. Select Format '[object name]'. Click the Alerts tab to display the alert settings.
  3. To use these settings as the default for the selected type of drawing object, select the Set as Default check box. These settings are then used when applying this drawing object to any chart.
  4. Click OK.

When an alert is triggered, you are notified from the Alert Notification dialog and/or an audible beep. Also, the alert is logged in the Message Center.

If you want to be notified when a Trendline alert criteria is met beyond the length of the Trendline drawn (into the future), you must select an alert option and extend the Trendline to the right.
