Stock Symbology

Stock symbols are shown in the standard format for listed and OTC securities as described below.

Classes of Stock

Some stocks are offered in different classes, such as Class A and Class B. Different classes of stock are displayed as the symbol root followed by a decimal (.) and the class of stock (such as A or B).

[Symbol root].[Stock class]

For example, Berkshire Hathaway is not traded as common stock, but it is offered as Class A stock and Class B stock. The symbol for Berkshire Hathaway Class A stock is BRK.A and the symbol for Berkshire Hathaway Class B stock is BRK.B.

Preferred Stock

Preferred stock is indicated by a decimal (.) and a capital P following the symbol root.

[Symbol root].P

For example, Standard Automotive Preferred is displayed as AJX.P.

Miscellaneous Extensions

The following extensions represent various special conditions that may occur for a security. The extensions are added following the symbol root after a decimal (.).

D = Reverse split

F = Foreign

Q = Bankruptcy

W = Warrant (.W for NYSE)

TradeStation NASDAQ Financial Status Indicator

The TradeStation NASDAQ Financial Status Indicator code will be included in parentheses after the symbol as outlined in the following table:

TradeStation Code
(in parentheses)
Description
(F) Deficient: Issuer failed to meet NASDAQ continue listing requirement
(E) Delinquent: Issuer missed regulatory filing deadline
(Q) Bankrupt: Issuer has filed for bankruptcy
(G) Deficient and Bankrupt
(H) Deficient and Delinquent
(J) Delinquent and Bankrupt
(K) Deficient, Delinquent, and Bankrupt

In handling multiple codes, such as the code for delayed (D) and/or threshold (SHO), the D (if applicable) will always be displayed first, followed by the SHO (if applicable), followed by any applicable TradeStation NASDAQ financial status indicator code. All codes will be contained within one set of parentheses and separated by commas. For example, if the symbol is delayed, it will be followed by a (D). If the symbol is a threshold security, it will be followed by (SHO). If a symbol is both delayed and a threshold security, it will be followed by a (D,SHO).

 In the Symbology expressions given in this section, [x] denotes a parameter that should be replaced with a value. The brackets ([ ]) are not a part of the expression. For example, [Symbol root] should be replaced with a symbol, such as ORCL. Items in italics are optional.
