Closing and Reversing Positions using the Position Graph Bar
You can quickly close or reverse a position from its corresponding Position Graph Bar. If certain conditions apply to the position that you are trying to close, a message will appear to notify you and give options on how you want to continue. Your options depend on whether you select the Send Now [order details] or the Customize at TradeStation Order Bar option.
Send Now
- If there is an existing exit order for the position that you are trying to close, you have the option of replacing the existing exit order.
- If the position that you are trying to close has been partially filled, you have the option to cancel the remaining entry order and close the position.
- If the position that you are trying to close has been partially filled and there is an existing exit order, you have the option to cancel the remaining entry and replace the existing exit order.
Customize
- If there is an existing exit order for the position that you are trying to close, you must cancel the order from the Order Bar (using the Cancel button) before attempting to close the position.
- If the position that you are trying to close has been partially filled, you must cancel the entry order from the Order Bar (using the Cancel button) before attempting to close the position.
- If the position that you are trying to close has been partially filled and there is an existing exit order, you must cancel the entry order and exit order from the Order Bar (using the Cancel button) before attempting to close the position.

- From the Position Graph Bar, right-click the position graph you want to close.
- Select Close this [symbol] position > Send Now [order details]. The Confirm dialog is displayed.
- Click Yes to send the order, click No to cancel.
The status bar displays the status of the order.
Closing a Position using the Customize Option from the Position Graph Bar
The Customize at the TradeStation Order Bar option will populate the Order Bar with the details for the order. You can then adjust the order details from the Order Bar as you wish.
- From the Chart Analysis window, right-click the position graph to close.
- Select Close this [symbol] position > Customize at TradeStation Order Bar.
The Sell and Ignore buttons are displayed in the Order Bar. Duration defaults to Day during normal market hours and Day+ outside of normal market hours.
- Enter a Limit Price.
- Click Sell. The Confirm dialog is displayed.
- Click Yes to send the order, click No to cancel.
The status bar displays the status of the order:
Closing All Open Positions using the Position Graph Bar
- From the Chart Analysis window, right-click the position graph to close.
- Select Close All Open Positions.
- Select either Send Now Exit All Open [long/short positions] in account ## or Send Now Exit All Open [long/short positions] in ALL accounts.
- The Send Now Exit All Open [long/short positions] in account ## option will close all positions in a specific account.
- The Send Now Exit All Open [long/short positions] in ALL accounts option will populate the Order Bar with the details for this order. You can then adjust the order details from the Order Bar as you wish.
TradeStation will notify you that you are about to exit your position.
- Click Yes to continue, No to cancel.

Reversing a Position using the Position Graph Bar
- From the Chart Analysis window, right-click the position graph to close.
- Select Reverse this [symbol] position.
- Select the desired with Exit option to determine the exit criteria to use for closing out the position before it is reversed.
The Confirm dialog is displayed.
- Click Yes to send the order, click No to cancel.

If you're long 5 contracts your position will be reversed to be short 5 contracts in one action. It will work the same way when going from short to long, for example a position that is short 500 shares will be reversed to be long 500 shares. For equities symbols that are not 'shortable', the long position will be canceled resulting in a flat position.
